.Serenity

Embroidery and felt picture art of Firefly's Serenity against the Verse. Took about 96 hours in total inclusive of working out the pattern and fiddling around with the guidelines.

Serenity is made from a tiny, two toned felt pattern stitched onto the base felt using tiny, fairy sized overhand backstitches. The gray details of the ships segments were stitched on over a template drawn on a piece of baking paper, baking paper later being laboriously removed from under the stitches. The engine emissions and light details on the hull were hand embroidered using shiny DMC threads. French knots were used for the ships guide lights.
The sunrise light patterns and shadow over a planet were all hand embroidered using shiny DMC threads of various strand combinations. You can't really see it in the picture, but there are very dark blues and brown black colours radiating out from the main light areas; in real light the shiny DMC occaisionally catches and reflects light so it looks like the colours are fading into the blackness and making an aura around the planet.
